My moment came in the year 1994. It was the first year that I participated in the Christmas Luncheon that the Woodland Kiwanis Club has been involved with preparing and serving for many years. The luncheon is the for the clients and friends of Yolo Employment Services (YES). YES and it's staff serve the needs of handicapped adults by providing training, socialization and sometimes assisting in helping clients find employment. Our club supports this organization and the work it does. Some of our members serve as Directors of this non-profit organization. This was the first real opportunity to see what my Kiwanis Club was all about. The smiles on the faces of the our members and the smiles on the faces of the challenged young adults were heartfelt. We provided a Santa and some gifts for the assembled diners. We also did some caroling with everyone joining in. At this time of year, I am very happy that we could play this role for those less fortunate than us.
